Daily life in Athens is both similar and different to daily life in America. The agora was a public market and meeting were men would express their feelings about anything with others. The Agora is specific to the one in Athens because it is written with a capital a. The Agora was the busiest and most popular of all the agoras due to being in one of the biggest cities in Ancient Greece. Men would usually go to the agora in the morning before work. Outside of the agora vendors would be waiting outside to sell goods such as food or wool and books.The women were usually at home with the kids and doing work around the house. Both
In both culture men were treated better than women and women were treated better than slaves.Both in Rome and in Greece the people found ways to be useful by doing jobs such as vendors. Depending on the woman, some Roman women were treated better than Greek women.They both found ways to communicate such as the agora and the shows at the Colosuem. |
Rome:
Being a Roman citizen was a pleasure. The people there liked it. The claimed citizenship by registering for the census every 5 years or the counting of people. If you didn’t register you had a chance of losing your property. Rich people had elegent houses and villas.They held shows and circusses in the famous Colosseum.People would also fight to death there. Those people were named gladiators. They were mostly slaves that were caught in war.Usually women in Rome would stay home. Her job depended on her husbands wealth. |
