Greece:
Like Rome Greece is a peninsula. Some pieces have eroded off of Greece and formed little rocky islands, though no pieces very far away.Mountains are the most common landform in Greece. In a way all Ancient Greece citizens were islanders because their civilization was surrounded by water.Greeks geography made it hard for people from diffrent parts of Greece to communicate due to a lack of both technology and water transportation for all people.Which made the citizens feel like they were apart of two different countries.Because of the seperation diffrent cities had different geographical features such as Sparta .Sparta was located in a fertile valley with three mountains surronding it. Unlike Rome Greece had small farmland.Usually the Greeks were in war so they didn’t want their farms to get ruined |
Rome
Rome has many hills. The hills helped the Roman millitary because the hills were easy to defend because the opposing military would have to climb the hills to get to them. Due to the lack of transportation they would have to walk together. The soil was fertile, which made it easier to farm. Their source of water was the river which helped keep the soil fresh and fertile. They also had the Tiber river. Rome is in the center of Italy. Italy is a peninsula meaning that there is water surrounding it. Also, Patricians created huge farms for themselves. Therefore they had a solid food source, which the mostly jobless Plebians didn’t have. |
Both
Both ancient Rome and ancient Greece were peninsulas meaning they were surrounded by water. They both tried to use their geographical features to help them in war. Which they spent a lot of time in. They both had a solid water source compared to other civilazations at their time due to being peninsulas and surrounded by water.
